Trash to Treasure

So last weekend, I also hit up Av. Mexico for their Sunday "Antique" Specials. While most of it was crap... I did see some cool Helmets from Germany, Fancy shmancy jewelry that I would or could never wear, and quite a few over priced pieces of art. Don't cry your eyes... I still weaseled a couple bucks out of hubby and walked away with my own additions to the decor...

This is a bad ass candle. I loved the intricacy of the design and flora..plus I'm a big Virgin junkie. For a mere 500 pesos, this could have sat in your living room. I still don't know where to put the damn thing. But it's so cool.

These three paintings? were 300, and again, I have no idea where to put them... but I am obsessed with those colors.

Apparently, hubby wanted something for himself. He found the best replica of a Mexican dream girl... Seriously, I'm not down for some Mexicana role play... if ya know what I mean.

Finally, we came across a book of Death and how it's been portrayed here in Mexico through time. We justified this 80 peso purchase as a need for reference in the shop.

Next time, we'll try to hit it up a bit earlier in the day. I did see some cool chandliers. PROJECT!!! I'll see you there next week!

I am thinking that the three paintings should be hinged together to make a triptych or a screen, I am big on biombos right now.
The thing that I hate about those carved or decorated candles is that you never want to burn them. I read somewhere that you melt them enough to put another candle inside but I am totally unclear on how this will work.
I had this really gorgeous one in the 70's it looked like an abstract flower, but I put on the windowsill and we lived in Las Vegas so it got warped.

Theresa

I wonder if you'd mind telling me if you saw any salvage house parts...things like windows, doors, vigas, that kind of thing.

Is there much furniture?

We might have to make a trip over from Mazatlan to check it out. Thanks so much!

Gringa: HAHA....I'm still crackin up. You gave me a visual...with the little apron and all.

Theresa: Oooh! I like that idea. If it's put together, I'll have an easier time finding a home for it. Still don't know how to burn the center of the candle out. I'll have to google that...

Nancy: Hello! We arrived kinda late at the antique place. Most of the furniture etc... that we saw, was already in a finished state. Of course, I plan on draggin hubby there again this weekend and I'll keep a eye out for salvage items!

Sunshine: I'm glad you sent Gringa a message. YOu'll both have to take a girl vacation and come down here and save me!!!

Wow Tom. THanks. I haven't heard anything about that yet. That's gonna be a bit difficult to get that idea to pass wouldn't it? Considering that EVERYWHERE in downtown Guadalajara is next to or in route to a hospital, school, churches etc.

Thanks for the info!

Regards,
Melissa

Yea, good luck with that. I have a friend with a bar on Av. Vallarta in Guad that he's been trying to open for the last 6 months and he keeps getting 'clausurado' by the city. They're lots of fun to deal with! Suerte!!

About Me

My photo
I've been living in Mexico now for about a two years with my hubby and 2 kids. Not exactly by choice, but we're here nonetheless. Luckily, I live with quite a few of the accomodations that i was used to in the states. In spite of those convienences, we also have a water tank with asbestos, outdated electricity, massive amounts of dust, caterpillars that burn your skin, and thousands of windshield washers on every street corner. My kiddos and I are learning to speak spanish and adjust to life away from our family and friends in the States.
